Defendant sentenced to 13.5 years for drug charges

A Leavenworth woman has been sentenced to 13.5 years in prison for multiple drug charges, according to a prosecution official. Barbara Ann Ray, 50, was sentenced Friday in Leavenworth County District Court for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl within 1,000 feet of a school, a felony charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

• The Leavenworth City Commission will meet Tuesday for a work session and regular meeting. Both meetings will take place at Leavenworth City Hall, 100 N. Fifth St. The work session will begin at 6 p.m. Commissioners will receive training regarding the Kansas Open Meetings Act and the Kansas Open Records Act. The regular meeting will start at 7 p.m. Agenda items include an ordinance to authorize the acquisition of land by condemnation, selection of the mayor, mayor pro-tem and a financial claims reviewer, consideration of abatement of administrative fees for nuisance special assessments, recommended revisions to the city's personnel policy manual, cereal malt beverage licenses, cancellation of a Dec. 28 meeting, a public hearing for amending the 2021 budget, a resolution concerning Planters II tenant write-off accounts, a resolution concerning opioid settlement funding, consideration of a real estate contract for the transfer of land and renewal of a commercial insurance package.
