The Deena Shroyer School of Dance will host “Nutcracker Suite” Dec. 18 at the Performing Arts Center, 500 Delaware St. in downtown Leavenworth. There will be performances by children from 5-18 years old at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door on the day of the event. All ticket sales benefi�t the Children’s Art Fund. Once-logged coastal land set to be sold to save redwoods

LOS ANGELES – A conservation group plans to purchase a scenic stretch of the Lost Coast in remote Northern California to save it from logging and preserve it for public use. Save the Redwoods League planned to announce Thursday that it’s agreed to purchase the historic DeVilbiss Ranch timberlands for $37 million if it can raise the money by the end of the year.

Turn to the Lord during the sufferer’s holiday

Christmas has been called a sufferer’s holiday. Some may think of it as the most wonderful time of the year. For others, it is filled with sorrow, sadness and loss. Holidays are reminders of who is missing. Many of our traditions are designed to evoke memories of places, people and events. When they aren’t with us anymore, it’s painful. The happy seasonal songs lose their joy when our spirit is grieving.
