Events will honor Bob Dole this weekend

The public, as well as state and federal officials will gather in the Kansas Statehouse on Saturday for a ceremony honoring the life of Bob Dole, among a slate of other events in Dole's home state. Dole died Sunday morning in his sleep at 98 years old, prompting an outpouring of support and memories from political figures in Kansas and nationally, as well as the public.

House vote OKs way for debt ceiling vote

WASHINGTON – The House voted overwhelmingly along party lines Tuesday on a bipartisan agreement that allows Congress to move closer to raising the nation’s debt ceiling. The vote came after leadership in the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced an agreement Tuesday that would create a one-time process to allow Senate Democrats to raise the debt ceiling on their own without fear of a Republican filibuster or other procedural hurdles.
