Aquifer levels in parts of western Kansas that rely on groundwater for everything from drinking to irrigation fell more than a foot last year, Kansas Geological Survey scientists said Tuesday. The Kansas Geological Survey earlier this month completed its annual campaign to measure the Ogallala Aquifer, which supplies the western one-third of the state with water.

Lansing City Council members got a preview of which streets, roads and curbs will be improved when the weather allows.Public Works Director Mike Spickelmier presented the 2025 Capital Improvement Plan, beginning with the proposed street projects and alternates. One that had been considered a main project, Centre Drive, was moved back to an alternate after Mayor Tony McNeill mentioned negotiations for possible development there, which would mean any improvements could get torn up during construction.Spickelmier said they were considering chip and seal, rather than mill and overlay, on 147th Street south of McIntyre.
