Winery raises funds for Cancer Center at annual bake sale

Each year around the holidays, Basehor’s Holy-Field Winery puts the call out to the community and local organizations to participate in their annual Cookies for Cancer event. Individuals and groups are encouraged to bake cookies and donate them to the winery to be sold as part of their holiday event with the proceeds being donated to the University of Kansas Cancer Center in memory of Holy-Field’s original tasting room hostess, Shirley Meyer.Shirley was the mother of Holy-Field’s current owner, Michelle Meyer, who said the holidays were always her mom’s favorite time of the year.

Leavenworth’s amateur radio club highlights good year

Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Club member Sara Hedberg of Lansing was awarded a scholarship from the American Radio Relay League, one of the top accomplishments of the year for the local club.Hedberg was featured in the ARRL's monthly magazine. She is attending the University of Illinois at Urbana.Club President Steve Rice said further club accomplishments this year included the Freez Your Keys event at Weston Bend State Park.
