Family matters at Kansas governor’s annual Christmas tree delivery

About a year ago, Ed Bartoszek’s mother, Faye, could ride a tractor through the rows of pines on the family tree farm in Fontana. Basehor post holds annual Thanksgiving dinner

Each year during the weekend before Thanksgiving, the Basehor VFW Post 11499 hosts a community Thanksgiving dinner aimed at offering a free holiday dinner, especially to veterans and senior citizens throughout the area.Preparations began nearly a week prior to the dinner and included cooking 14 turkeys, 10 hams and making 30 pies, 10 trays of stuffing, gallons of homemade gravy and 70 pounds of mashed potatoes. Nearby LynnMark Mercantile provided 200 rolls.Members of Basehor’s FaithWay Church delivered meals to people who couldn’t make it out of their homes to attend the dinner in person.
