Township fire department holds awards ceremony

The Fairmount Township Fire Department held its annual awards recently, honoring long-term employees, fire cadets from Basehor-Linwood High School and the 2024 Firefighter of the Year.Basehor-Linwood High School senior Grace Douglas is one of five cadets this year training and serving with FTFD. She was awarded the Captain Jim Dickey Memorial Fire Cadet Scholarship, which was named in honor of Dickey, who served the community from 2002 until he died in 2020, always exemplifying what it meant to be a public servant.Chief Mike Lingenfelser acknowledged Dickey’s contributions of becoming the department’s designated safety officer, even taking it upon himself to obtain the designation as a car seat installation technician in 2019 as a way to give back to the community by helping to keep children safe.“Each year, one Fairmount Township fire cadet is selected for a scholarship based on their actions during their time as a cadet.
