With blizzard conditions bearing down on the Midwest this weekend, area residents scrambled on Saturday to stock up their pantries at local grocery stores and, for Leavenworth area residents, a popular local farm store.The Thomas family at JET Produce and Meats, 26617 Tonganoxie Dr., prepared for the storm by shoring up sheltering and food for farm animals while making sure the farm store was well-stocked.Farmers Jacob Thomas and his father, Dale Thomas, said many details at JET must be prepped for such a big storm. “We haven’t had a deep snow in a long time,” Dale said.

When Basehor resident Eddie Bush was just 10 years old, he took up a sport that would stay with him many decades later. That sport was bowling, and he is now a member of the Kansas State United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.Bush, now 80, still bowls five days a week in several senior bowling leagues and occasionally travels out of town for tournaments as well.
