Volunteers host first garden tour in Basehor

The Basehor Community Volunteers took advantage of the green thumbs of several local residents to put together their first Basehor Garden Tour earlier this month. While the weather the day of the tour had spotty rain showers, attendance was good for the event.Five residents opened their gardens to visitors with the ticket price funding the works of the Basehor Volunteers, including Wayne Rhodus, whose backyard has been transformed into an area of native plants with 140 species of wildflowers.

New Basehor amphitheater hosts free concerts

When Basehor Park and Recreation Coordinator Mike Martin was hired last year, one new city amenity that he was most excited about was the amphitheater which was being built with the purpose of providing entertainment for the community. Having some contacts in the Nashville music scene, Martin couldn’t wait to start booking performers to utilize the space to benefit the community.“I love music and people enjoy a stress-free night of good music where you can bring your blankets and chairs to the event lawn and relax and enjoy some good food and good music,” Martin said.Each third Thursday of the month through Aug.
