Byron Lee Maduska

Byron Lee Maduska died at age 73 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Armistice Day Nov. 11, 1948 and died October 2, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents Albert Luther Maduska and Delma Fern Power Maduska. Byron was a member of one of the oldest families in Leavenworth. His great grandfather, Anton Maduska, arrived here in 1866 and some family members were here before that time. Byron was always interested in Leavenworth history and politics. Byron attended Leavenworth public schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1967. He was a graduate of Kansas State College in Emporia. After graduation he served for some time on the Leavenworth Police Department. That was followed by twenty plus years of service in the active and reserve United States Air Force. His final reserve rank was Major. During his Air Force career, he enjoyed considerable travel in the United States and Europe. He particularly liked the foods of Belgium and northern France. His other great love was fishing, especially salt water fishing. Byron loved to tell his many, many stories of great trips fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Byron is survived by two brothers, Dr. Albert (Mary) Maduska and John Robert Maduska. He is also survived by three nieces, Heidi Garrett, Margaret (Alex) Haley, Rebecca (Trevor) Fitschen and their six children. The family would very much like to thank Byron’s friend, Sid Brown, for his generous support of Byron and the family during these difficult times. The COVID virus pandemic has made traveling very difficult. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, October 10, 2022 at Davis Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be 10 A.M..
