Sunflower Summer builds more than memories

In 2021, Kansas Tourism launched the Sunflower Summer program, opening the doors to our state’s zoos, museums, nature centers and historical sites to Kansas families — for free. Designed to help young Kansans explore and fall in love with their home state, the program has quickly proven to be much more than a feel-good initiative.It’s a smart investment in our children’s learning and our state’s economic vitality.Over the past four years, the program has grown dramatically.

Kansas sports lawyer brings clarity to the chaos of college athletics

If you talked to a college sports fan in Kansas over the past few years, you likely heard their frustrations: the transfer portal, 25-year-old quarterbacks still using COVID eligibility, the possibility of fading Blue Blood dynasties, conference realignment and student athletes getting paid more than their instructors.This academic year seemed particularly sour and chaotic. To help me find context, I sat down with Mit Winter, a former college basketball player who now works as a Kansas-City area lawyer specializing in the legal issues of college sports.

Secret of life is to accept our dependence on God

Who am I? What's important in my life? What should I do after work or school? What are my goals in life? What's my priority in life? Who is God and what does God want of me? Where do I go on Sunday? What is my relationship with the church? Am I growing in love or do I become bitter in life? What am I doing with my life? These are important questions that call for decisions.We make decisions daily. Some of the decisions we make help or benefit us while some are not to our advantage.

The jinx of the poem that was never sent

I didn't send the poem to 10 people within three hours, so bad luck was bestowed upon me. I'm not superstitious, but I did take more care than usual, but it happened anyway.It started after reminding the grandkids to be careful going down to the dock and then finding myself sliding down the grassy hill, hitting the dock with the shin of my leg, as four of my family members, who were on the dock fishing, watched in horror.
