What’s the real problem with electing justices?

Sixteen months from now, Kansans will vote on a state constitutional amendment that will, if passed, institute popular elections for state Supreme Court justices. This possibility disturbs many Kansans, and it’s worth trying to understand why.Today, Kansas has a mostly merit-based system for choosing Supreme Court justices; while the governor makes the appointment, they are required to choose from list of candidates prepared by a non-partisan committee of lawyers.

Is our country still marching forward or shrinking backward?

Is our vision for America shrinking? What are the children in school these days learning about our homeland? I grew up knowing that I lived in a great nation, maybe even the greatest in history. As this young country nears celebrating 247 years of independence, is our country still marching forward or shrinking backward?The central premise of the Declaration of Independence was that all people have the power to govern ourselves.

The Trump administration has warned that several groups want to take many things away from white, working-class Americans: their jobs, their belief that there are only two genders, and their right to go to libraries with books that exclude almost everyone except them.The administration usually refers to these “others” with collective nouns. Immigrants, LGBTQs, minorities.
