Bill brings accountability to budgetary processes

This is my first update on hot topics we are working on in this 2025 session of the Kansas Senate.I want to start by highlighting my committee assignments and we have some good ones. After discussions with the Senate president, I am on the following committees: Taxation, Transportation, Commerce and Judiciary, and a special committee on Veteran Affairs.I could not be more pleased with the committees and our committees’ ability to impact the lives of District 5 and all Kansans.

Property valuation issue deserves a vote

In a recent article, Speaker of the Kansas House Dan Hawkins indicated that he would not allow the Kansas House of Representatives to consider SCR1603, which would place a cap on spiking Kansas property valuation. The constitutional amendment would add Kansas to the list of the 26 other states that have adopted some version of a cap on property valuations in an effort to control property tax increases.

Focus on the real problems we face

To the editor:I understand that many people voted for Donald Trump to make life here better. Does it make life better to have scores of hardened criminals set loose to cause violence against anyone who helped convict them?Does it make life better that one of Trump's executive orders suspends funds for infrastructure? The improvements we saw on our local roads were possible because of those funds.And trans people, a very small part of our population, are not this country's worst problem.
