Leavenworth backs grinding out strong reputation

Through the first two games, the Leavenworth football team has been winning with an inspiring team-first credo and one of the scariest stables of running backs I have seen in a long time. Coach Sean Sachen’s crew has shown a penchant for grinding down opposing defenses up front and then sending in waves of fresh legs throughout the game to exploit the holes at the line of scrimmage.

Bobcats start golf season on high note

The Basehor-Linwood High School girls’ golf team is right back at it, and the results are already starting to come.Just one year removed from the program’s first team trip to the state tournament in 18 years, the Bobcats show no signs of letting up. Coach Shannon Powell’s crew has two tournaments on the slate this week, with Tuesday’s Hayden Invite at Shawnee Country Club followed by Wednesday’s Frontier League Spring Hill Invitational at Sycamore Ridge Golf Club in Spring Hill.With two tournaments already under its belt this season, Powell has been encouraged by her team’s trajectory.“They recognize the progress they’re making, and I’ve shared with them how both their individual scores and the team’s scores from the past two tournaments compare to last year,” she said.

Lions power past Schlagle 5-1

The Lansing High School boys’ soccer team continued its powerhouse start to the season Thursday, turning away a physical opponent and owning the night en route to a 5-1 non-conference win over visiting F.L. Schlagle High School.Through the first 120 minutes of the season, the unbeaten Lions (3-0) have outscored opponents by a score of 12-2.
