Trout fishing in a cold winter rain

There are few better times to trout fish than during a light winter rain. Both trout and aquatic insects tend to be more active in low light, and cloudy conditions provide that setting over a longer part of the day. The fish are afforded better protection from aerial predators in low light, making them feed more confidently in the clear waters of a trout stream or lake.

State champions

PARK CITY – About a year ago, Avari Johnson began writing daily in her journal, “I will be a state champion.” The Leavenworth junior is going to need a new mantra. Johnson defeated Spring Hill sophomore Campbell Mermis 6-1 Thursday to win the 145-pound title at the Class 6-5A state championship tournament.

LINDA K. CAUDLE

Linda K. Caudle, devoted wife and beloved mother, 71, of Leavenworth passed away peacefully, Friday, February 3, 2023. She was born February 24, 1951, in Carlisle, Penn., to Reinsford and Viola (Apling) Oliver. Linda and her brother, David, traveled with family in Japan and Korea as their father was a soldier. She met and married her husband, SGM Dennis Caudle in June 1977. He preceded her in death in 2021. Linda and Dennis traveled four tours in Germany and one tour in Panama. Linda worked for the Department of Defense for over 44 years and received many awards. She also worked vigorously with the Lansing Memorial American Legion family #411 supporting and honoring our Active Duty and prior service veterans and their families as well as the community as a whole. She is survived by her son, Michael (Ashley); and grandchildren, Michele, Amelia, Rhys and Dax, all of Leavenworth. Services will be announced at a later date.
