STATE QUALIFIERS

Three athletes from Leavenworth County will compete in the Class 5A state tennis tournament this Friday and Saturday in Topeka. At singles, Leavenworth freshman Jack Harris went 4-0 last Friday to win the De Soto regional.

Spires win KCAC track championship

The University of Saint Mary men won their third straight KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship and the women went back-to-back Friday at Southwestern College in Winfield. Both squads had their largest margin of victory as the men outscored second-place Friends 215-118.5 and the women topped Friends 228-154.

A lucky exchange

German exchange student Tanja Weihing is loving her time in Lansing, thanks to her host family, the high school swim team and pulled pork. “I think I’m the luckiest person alive right now to be in the situation I’m in,” Weihing said.

Former Bobcats named All-KCAC

Basehor-Linwood graduates Maria Howard and Sadie McWilliams were two of seven University of Saint Mary softball players named to KCAC all-conference teams. Howard (pitcher) and McWilliams (outfield) were both honorable mention selections along with teammates Shelby Mohler (pitcher), Victoria Gutierrez (shortstop), Madisyn Thompson (infield) and Hazel Faz (outfield).

QUALIFYING TIME

The high school spring sports season is flying by. With the regular season coming to an end next week, here are the dates to know and information about regional and state tournaments for each sport beginning with today’s regional tennis tournament: BOYS TENNIS Friday Lansing, Leavenworth and Basehor-Linwood will all compete in the De Soto regional along with Shawnee Heights, Topeka West, Highland Park and Seaman.
