‘A different mindset’

Describing the progress she has made in the shot put, Aarion Pickens kept coming back to the same word – “mind-blowing.” After breaking her personal record by nearly 5 feet in the first track and field meet of the spring, the Leavenworth sophomore has not stopped improving, and her mark of 40 feet, 3 inches is first in Class 5A. Longtime shot put coach Gloria Swanagan has known Pickens for years through their attendance at Rock of Refuge Christin Fellowship in Leavenworth.
