Strength in numbers

For all the girls powerlifting teams hoping for a down year from Basehor-Linwood, keep waiting. The Bobcats, winners of 14 straight state titles, return three individual champions, Sophie Leach, Audrey Spellman and Ava Gunn, as well as state runners-up Gwen Shafer, Samantha Price and Bella Rollo.

Ballard places fourth

Brody Ballard capped off his freshman season with a state medal. Wrestling in the KSHSAA Class 5A state tournament Friday and Saturday at Hartman Arena in Park City, Ballard placed fourth at 106 pounds.

STATE CHAMPION

Leavenworth has its first girls wrestling state champion. Hannah Jackson defeated Olathe Northwest’s Caroline Foeller in the 143-pound finals of the KSHSAA Class 6-5A tournament Thursday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
