Gregory Cox, 42, of Leavenworth died Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was born April 27, 1980, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Deborah M. Matthews and Gregory A. Cox. Gregory graduated from Lansing High School and later attended the University of Kansas. He was fascinated with technology and there was nothing he couldn’t fix. Gregory used his genius to excel in math.
He is survived by his parents, Deborah Matthews and Gregory A. (Deb Mello) Cox; two sons, Gregory and Thomas Cox; a daughter, Rileigh Cox, all of Leavenworth; a brother, Stephen Cox of Leavenworth; a sister, Bethany Rae Cox of Los Angeles, Calif.; three nephews, Ryan, Blake and Cameren Cox; a niece, Jaz Rayne Cox; special friend, Loni Diaz; step-son, Alex Diaz; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles from coast to coast. Gregory was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray Matthews Sr. and Ruth Hancock; his paternal grandparents, Roy Jr. and June Cox; and his faithful pets, Winnie, Hoya and Duke. He was very soft-spoken and had a loving heart. Gregory was also a giving person and would help people whenever they needed it. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician and held certifications in MIG/ TIG welding. He was also a Certified Service Dog
Trainer. Gregory’s sense of humor would brighten any room, and his smile was contagious. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles and ATV’s of any kind, with his dream car being a 1970 Datsun 240 Z. He loved his kids and family dearly and always put himself last. Gregory touched many lives along his journey and will be missed every day. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to H.O.P.E. Pet Rescue in Leavenworth.
