A group of elected officials, including Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson and Leavenworth Mayor Holly Pittman, recently joined city leaders, media representatives and volunteers for a sneak peek at a replica of the gallows now located inside the Kansas State Penitentiary Museum in Lansing. Since the original gallows were relocated to the Kansas State Historical Society in 1987, the Lansing Historical Society and Museum has worked to bring them back. Board members Tom Young, Paul Lamborn, John Craig and friend Randy Elliot brought the past to life by building a replica of the gallows that once stood in the prisons warehouse. Tours of the museum and the gallows are available. For more information, visit www.lansingkansashistory.com. Photo Credit: Micah Bray
