Mary Ann Knapp Borchardt

PITTSBURG – Mary Ann Knapp Borchardt, Pittsburg, died at the age of 101 on December 23, 2021, at home. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 28, 1920, to Frank and Lillian (Huffman) Knapp. Her family moved to Lansing, Kansas, where she was a 1937 graduate of Lansing High School. On June 25, 1939, she married Ralph Borchardt and was married to him for 52 years until he passed away in 1991. The couple moved to Leavenworth in 1948 and then to Shawnee in 1954. She worked in Layout and Customer Relations for Intercollegiate Press for 21 years. She held membership at Merriam Christian Church in Merriam, Kansas, for over 60 years. After moving to Pittsburg, Kansas, in 2002, she attended Countryside Christian Church. Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, baking and was an avid card player.

Survivors include her two sons, Doug (Rosie) Borchardt, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Randy (Kathy) Borchardt, Berrien Springs, Michigan; four grandchildren, Susan (David) Hogard, Kathi (Lemmie III) Stone, DeeAnn (Terry) Allen, Chris (Tammy) Borchardt; and six great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Anna Hogard, Lemmie Stone IV, Joshua, Hannah, and Jonathan Allen; one sister, Lillian Inman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Francis Knapp and Jack Knapp.

On Friday, January 7, there will be a visitation from 5-6 pm with a funeral service to immediately follow at Countryside Christian Church in Pittsburg, KS. In addition, there will be a visitation from 9:30-10:30 am on Saturday at Amos Family Funeral Home with a funeral service to immediately follow. Burial at Mt. Muncie Cemetery in Lansing, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Countryside Christian Church or Merriam Christian Church.
