Nicolas (Nic) Aguilar

LEAVENWORTH – Nicolas (Nic) Aguilar, 89, of Leavenworth passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on December 6, 1932 at Las Animas, Colorado to Enrique and Juana (Cordova) Aguilar. Nic was one of twelve children born.

He attended La Junta High School and Otero College. Nic joined the US Army on October 19, 1955 and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1966. He met Evelyn R. Garcia and on January 21, 1961 they were married in La Junta, CO. From this union four children were born, Nicolas Jr, Celeste, Crystal and Sonia. He was a member of the St. Casimir Catholic Church. Nic worked at the Veteran’s Administration Center as a fiscal officer for 35 years. He enjoyed traveling, watching sports, fishing and going to the casinos with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Nic is survived by his wife, Evelyn of the home. Son, Nicolas (Mindy) Aguilar Jr, daughters, Celeste (Dale) Pendergraft and Sonia (Mark Shore) Aguilar. 6 grandchildren, Nicolas Chase, Nathan Aguilar, Rachel Rodriguez, Danielle Pendergraft, Alena Aguilar and Nicolas Aguilar III. 6 Great-grandchildren, Eden Aguilar, Diego Rodriguez, Jackson Aguilar, Isabella Rodriguez, Aniyah Mathis and Darius Mathis Jr. Brother, Porfirio (Rosella) Aguilar and sisters, Helen Kelly, Carmen (Val) Candelario, Juanita (Al) Baca and Margaret Madrid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings and his daughter Crystal Mahoney.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 715 Pennsylvania St., Leavenworth, KS from 09:00 am to 11:00 am with the rosary to be said at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am with Fr. Phil Winkelbauer, officiating. Burial at 12:30 pm with US Army military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Memorials in his name may be directed to St. Casimir / Sacred Heart Parish.
