French Lt. Col. Francois-Xavier Chesnais was inducted into the Sons of the American Revolution during the Henry Leavenworth Chapter's annual Patriotic Picnic. Chesnais had three Revolutionary War ancestors that fought at the Battle of Yorktown. Two of his ancestors were French naval officers aboard the blockade ships and one was a French Army officer serving in the defensive positions keeping the British surrounded, ending with their surrender. Chesnais currently serves as the French liaison officer at the Fort Leavenworth Combined Arms Center. Shown are Joan Koechig of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Bennett Dickson, president of the local SAR chapter, and Chesnais and his five children. Photo Credit: Kathleen Schley
