Thomas (Tom/Tommie) Dawson age 52, passed away very unexpectedly on December 13th, 2021; he was born October 5th, 1969 in Leavenworth, KS to Barbara and Tom Dawson. He attended Leavenworth schools and was also a graduate from The University of Central Florida.
Tom married Natasha Nakata Hiatt on August 6th, 1994 at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, KS; she survives at their home. Tasha and Tommie lived in Winter Park and Orlando, Florida for several years before coming home to Leavenworth to start their family. After returning Tom and Tasha owned the American Family Insurance office in Lansing for nine years. Since 2011 to present Tom served as a valued member of the Furniture Sales team at Nebraska Furniture Mart.
Tommie was always an avid sports fan that also enjoyed, boating, motorcycles and drones. The light of his life, his daughter Amber Nikole Dawson was born February 24th, 2002. He was an exceptional devoted father and so very proud of Amber’s academic achievements and the beautiful well-grounded young lady she has become. She currently attends KU in Lawrence, Kansas.
He is survived by his Mother Barbara Dawson, Sister Susan Dawson, Brother in law Shawn A. Hiatt (Alane), and Mother in law Kathy Hiatt. Nieces and nephews: Lauren, Leah and Dawson McGowan, Shawn M. Hiatt and Haydn Norris. Also, Tommie’s large extended in law family that will greatly miss him, Grandmother Betty L. Nakata, Uncles & Aunts in law David Nakata (Shari), Michael Nakata, Judy Rourke (Jerry), Denny Hiatt (Susan) plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tommie was preceded in death by his father Tom Dawson, Grandfathers Hank Kellner and Haskell Dawson, Grandmothers Bea Binder and Mary Kellner, Uncle Stu Dawson, Father in law Terry L. Hiatt.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Amber N. Dawson Educational Fund as his tribute to her continued success or for Tommie’s ongoing love of animals and pal their dog “Spyral”, donations to Leavenworth’s Hope Animal Clinic.
