State Rep. Pat Proctor, center, recently met with the Board of County Commissioners and legislators for Geary County, the county with the highest percentage of veterans in the state, to discuss an amendment he has drafted to House Bill 2036. Proctor sponsored this bill to provide property tax relief to disabled veterans and ushered it to passage through the House last session. The amendment would retain all of the benefits for disabled veterans but allow the most affected counties, cities and school districts to receive compensation from the state general fund.
