Winifred M. Henderson, 99, passed away surrounded by her family’s love, April 29, 2022 at Twin Oaks Health & Rehab, Lansing, KS.

Winifred May Schreiber was born on April 27, 1923 at Easton, MO to Roy E. Schreiber & Jessie M. Roberts Schreiber. Winnie was raised on the family farm where she said she “rode horses and played the piano.” She graduated from Easton High School and Johnson’s Business College. She worked at Armour & Co. in St. Joseph, MO where she met C. Virgil Henderson and they danced their way into each other’s hearts. She and Virgil were married February 1 of 1946. They moved to Leavenworth, KS to begin their married life where Virgil established a wholesale meat business. She had been the setter on the Easton High School All Star Volleyball team which served her well throughout her life as she and Virgil were still playing regularly on Leavenworth City Recreation volleyball teams at 80 years of age. She and Virgil were lifelong members of the First Christian Church and sang in the choir for many years where she also served as a reserve pianist. Winnie and Virgil owned and operated Buddies Drive In, Village Laundromat and she taught senior water aerobics for many years. She also very much enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil of 68 years, her brother, LeRoy Schreiber and a granddaughter, Megan Rebecca Henderson. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Dian), Atchison, KS, Mike, Platte City, MO, Brian (Janet), Springfield, MO, 7 grandchildren, 16 greatgrandchildren, 4-great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be scheduled at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope in lieu of flowers and may be left at the Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, KS.
