Horses & Heroes hold downtown fundraiser to assist veterans

Horses & Heroes held a car and dog wash at its downtown Basehor office parking lot last weekend with 100% of the proceeds dedicated to veterans and first responders. The organization opened its Basehor office earlier this year in part due to the large population of veterans in the area and specializes in trauma that has affected the brain, body, emotions and behaviors including post-traumatic stress disorders for veterans, active military, first responders, and their families.

Army program

Military officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the totals are preliminary and could change, said the initial recruiting goal was as much as 60,000 this year, but more realistic expectations later put it at about 55,000. With one month to go, officials are predicting they will come in about 45,000, though it could get better if there is a surge at the end.

Trump documents: No immediate ruling on outside legal expert

A federal judge heard arguments Thursday on whether to appoint an outside legal expert to review government records seized by the FBI last month in a search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida home. There was no immediate ruling, but the judge had indicated last week that she was inclined to grant the request and asked Thursday, “What is the harm?” in such an appointment.
